Day 8 of the New York Vendée: On course with a different route

The participants are now more than halfway through the New York Vendée and are expected to arrive in France on 8 June at the earliest. If the weather remains as unpredictable and rough as it currently is, Boris Herrmann estimates that the arrival date could be 13 June.

High, unstable winds are currently the biggest challenge for the sailing pro. Although the sea is slightly calmer, the weather continues to demand maximum concentration and calls for unflinching endurance. What’s more, the race is extremely exciting. Behind the current leader Charlie Dalin of MACIF Santé Prévoyance, the field is tightly bunched. Herrmann, in sixth place, is right in the middle and within striking distance of the front ranks.

It is also a race of different approaches: While the skipper of Team Malizia has chosen the northern route, all the other sailors have opted for the southern course. Although the distance is longer for Herrmann, he can sail faster than his opponents thanks to favourable winds.

These are all the ingredients for a nail-biting final sprint. If you want to follow the race, we recommend the race tracker on the Team Malizia website. Regular updates will be posted here:
