Schütz’s new IBC combines maximum fire protection with easy discharge from below

With the Ecobulk SX-D, Schütz offers a certified combination IBC for flammable and sensitive contents. Featuring a closed steel shell and an HDPE inner bottle, it provides double, reliable protection against fire and leakage.
At Interpack 2026, Schütz will be presenting the Ecobulk SX-D-OV, a new, additional variant of its established double-walled combination IBC, the Ecobulk SX-D. The design, comprising an HDPE inner bottle and a steel outer shell, ensures reliable protection against fire and leakage. In addition, the SX-D-OV offers the familiar convenience of discharge from below using an outlet valve. Series production of the new variant will commence in August 2026.

The transport and storage of flammable hazardous liquids is among the greatest challenges in packaging management. In an emergency, time is the decisive factor for effective fire protection. The Ecobulk SX-D by Schütz offers maximum protection against fire and leakage, even under extreme conditions and in hazardous areas. Customers also benefit from the superior efficiency of the IBC system. Both the combination IBC, which has been an established player on the market for many years, and the new variant combine an HDPE inner bottle with a closed, fire-resistant steel shell. In the event of a fire, the outer steel container acts as an integrated containment tray and provides reliable protection against potential leaks. The base assembly and the outer shell are welded together for exceptional stability. Thanks to its double-walled construction, the Ecobulk SX-D reduces fire hazards in storage and production environments and, in an emergency, buys valuable time for firefighting and safety measures. This makes it particularly suitable not only for the transport of hazardous goods but also for use in Ex zones.

National regulations, comprehensive certification

Safety guidelines for handling flammable liquids vary from country to country, requiring a solution that covers all eventualities. Whether in road transport – where specific regulations apply to sensitive cargo in parts of Europe – or in hazardous goods warehouses, the SX-D ensures safety across national fire safety regulations and all areas of application.

With its double-walled construction, the Ecobulk SX-D offers not only maximum protection against leakage but also high heat resistance. The model has successfully passed rigorous fire tests and is the first combination IBC to be certified by FM Global (“FM Approved”). It also meets the requirements of UL Standard 2368 and is approved for Ex Zones 1 and 2. The SX-D also effortlessly meets the safety requirements for sensitive hazardous liquids, such as those in Class 6.1, and thus represents a large-volume packaging option for applications where previously only steel drums provided the necessary protection. In addition to the extensive safety benefits, the use of the certified combination IBC also has a positive impact on insurance terms.

New variant with an outlet valve

The Ecobulk SX-D-OV enhances the SX-D’s safety concept with an added feature for even more convenience: discharge from the base. A steel lid that can be opened without tools provides access to an outlet valve. To ensure maximum safety in the event of a fire, the fitting area is protected by an additional heat shield.

The new combination IBC again underlines Schütz’s commitment to consistently developing and advancing the technology and sustainability of packaging systems. The guiding principle “Circular Economy meets Technology” is evident in the new Ecobulk SX-D-OV: durable components, a low-maintenance design and safe usage and return processes come together in an IBC that is efficient and resource-saving. Visitors to the trade fair are invited to experience the benefits for themselves at Stand D22 and E34 in Hall 10.
