Schütz sets the standard for jerrycans: a new, expanded product range at Interpack

The new SC2 jerrycans by Schütz stand out thanks to their optimal design, wide choice of sizes, stackability and numerous customisation options, including Green Layer, Foodcert and Cleancert versions, as well as EVOH and SMP barrier solutions.
At Interpack 2026, Schütz will be presenting new, comprehensive packaging solutions that rethink the entire lifecycle of industrial packaging - from innovative designs and efficient production to sustainable return and reuse based on a circular approach. By expanding its jerrycan portfolio with the new SC2 series, the company is setting another milestone in combining technology with the circular economy.

Following the successful launch of the SC1 series, Schütz is now expanding its portfolio by adding a further range of jerrycans. The new packaging for small volumes features a revised design based on insight gained during the development of the SC1 series and feedback from a wide variety of applications. Instead of the ribbed edges that were standard in the previous range, the SC2 series features a smooth, dimensionally stable design with a larger label area. This modification optimises material usage and ensures maximum efficiency. Both the SC1 and the new SC2 series offer familiar advantages such as secure stackability thanks to a form-fitting connection between the top and bottom of the jerrycan. While most jerrycans have usually been manufactured using a single or 2-layer process, Schütz uses a 3-layer extrusion blow moulding process as standard for its jerrycans. State-of-the-art production lines at the global centre of excellence in Selters, Germany, enable manufacturing to the highest quality standards to meet customers' elevated requirements.

New sizes, new markets: Schütz expands its global range of jerrycans
With its new generation of jerrycans, Schütz is significantly expanding its packaging range for smaller volumes. In addition to the established SC1 containers, which remain available as a reliable UN standard for numerous applications, the SC2 series includes additional intermediate sizes in 6, 11, 12, 22.5 and 27.5 litre formats. For the North American market, Schütz also offers the SC2 jerrycans in 5 and 6 gallon sizes. A so-called F-style jerrycan with a capacity of 2.5 gallons has also been developed specifically to meet the requirements of the US agricultural sector. Its design is distinct from the SC1 and SC2 series and features a raised recessed handle for easy handling.

3- and 6-layer jerrycans for maximum product safety
With the launch of the SC2 range, Schütz is simultaneously expanding its portfolio to include jerrycan solutions specifically designed for quality-sensitive and demanding applications. The Schütz standards Foodcert and Cleancert are available for particularly high purity requirements. Foodcert packaging is specifically adapted to the needs of the food industry; Cleancert options meet the highest standards of technical purity. Both variants are based on comprehensive system certification to FSSC 22000, which covers the end product, the materials used and the entire production process. Manufacturers of foods and other sensitive products benefit from maximum safety throughout the entire supply chain.

A key feature of the SC2 jerrycans is the 3- to 6-layer construction. The 3-layer version offers enhanced stability, protection and versatility as the Schütz standard. The 6-layer variant, which is available in sizes 20, 22.5, 25, 27.5 and 30 litres and the F-Style jerrycan, offers an additional, integrated high-performance EVOH barrier. This effectively protects the contents from the permeation of gases and volatile substances, making the jerrycan ideal for permeation-active contents, such as food additives or chemical products, and contributing to a significantly extended shelf life. One standout aspect is that this high-performance barrier is a PFAS-free solution; it already meets the requirements of future PFAS regulations, thereby setting new standards in terms of product safety and environmental compatibility.

Green Layer: sustainability meets product safety
Both the 3-layer and 6-layer jerrycans are available in a Green Layer version. In these variants, high-quality Schütz regranulate is used in the middle layers, meaning that the packaging currently contains up to 30% recycled material. The inner and outer layers are made entirely of virgin HDPE, ensuring that the contents and the environment exclusively come into contact with virgin material. Green Layer packaging meets the same quality and safety requirements as the standard ranges, whilst making a significant contribution to resource conservation and sustainability.
